The mission of Just Like Me, But Different is to expose children to the concepts of global commonality and environmental responsibility and inspire them to become compassionate, informed and engaged citizens of the world.
With that in mind, the project’s
goals are to leave children with the following understandings:
- Awareness of similarities and differences
between their own lives and the surroundings, beliefs
and customs of children in other countries and from diverse
cultural backgrounds.
- Appreciation for the interdependent, parallel
existence of the non-human world. By introducing children
to animals in their habitats around the world, Just
Like Me, But Different teaches empathy for wildlife
and reinforces the overall notion of commonality.
- Recognition of each individual's relationship
to the well being of our world. As children develop cultural
awareness and a sense of place through exploration of
foreign and familiar places, they will become more involved
and accountable as global ambassadors and environmental
stewards.
